Taupō District Council wants to hear from people and businesses keen to operate on Council reserves during summer and through the year ahead.

Council is routinely approached by people wanting to use reserves (such as Northcroft Reserve and Lake Front Reserve) to operate from with activity and refreshments ventures. By seeking early expressions of interest, Council hopes to efficiently compare the ideas and select ventures most beneficial to the Taupō District community and its visitors. Selected businesses will then be asked to put forward a formal proposal.

Council Special Projects Officer for Open Spaces, Alison Rawley, says operations may include food and drink vendors or recreational activities, or provide a service that is beneficial to reserve users. “We want to get a good idea of what’s out there to be able to make some preliminary recommendations to Council,” she says.

Taupō District Council hopes to discover what is available and ensure chosen ventures are consistent with the classification of the reserves. The process will also mean an even playing field for proposed ventures. “This is a great chance for businesses to tell us what they can do for visitors and the community,” Ms Rawley says.

Expressions of interest can be lodged with Council until September 30 2012. Forms are available here
