Nominations are now open for the 2012 Wellingtonian of the Year Awards.

The annual awards, fondly referred to as the Wellys, recognise and celebrate the people who make the Wellington region a great place to live, work and play.

Hutt City Council is once again showing its support for science and technology by sponsoring this category in the awards.

Encouraging cutting-edge technological development and innovation in the science industries is critical to local and national growth. Hutt City is building a reputation as a centre for new and existing science and technology business, with exciting developments taking place in areas such as Seaview and Gracefield.

You have until 5pm on 24 September to nominate one or more worthy individuals in any of the nine categories. One of the category winners will also claim the overall title of Wellingtonian of the Year. Last year’s supreme award winner was Father Des Britten of the Wellington City Mission.

Submitting your nominations is easy, and is a great way of celebrating the significant contribution people make every year to the region’s economic, cultural and social wellbeing.

Finalists in each category will be announced on 15 October, with the awards ceremony taking place on 22 November.
