Funding approved for Taupō District road reseals

Taupō District Council awarded the contract for the chip seal resurfacing for about 22km of the District’s roading network at the 25 September Council meeting.

The tender was awarded to Higgins Contractors Ltd who won with a bid of $914,000. The submission was the lowest priced tender.

The project includes resealing 22km of road – about 3.2 per cent of Taupō District’s roading network. It includes resealing existing sealed roads. There is a twenty year life expectancy for resealed roads though that estimate varies based on traffic volume, topography and soil conditions.

The reseals work, due to begin 30 October 2012, is part of Council’s on-going road maintenance work.  Funding for the work has been allocated in Council’s NZTA-subsidised Transport Programme.
