The 2012 Toyota Racing Series will gain a strong on-screen profile across Australia when it screens on Speed TV from Thursday October 11.

The schedule covers every round of the five-week, fifteen race premier single-seater championship which attracted a record 15 international entries and was won by rising Kiwi star Nick Cassidy.

News of the scheduled coverage comes as the series once more begins confirming drivers for the coming season and extends an invitation to rising Australian race stars to test their skills against their New Zealand and northern hemisphere rivals.

Coverage of this year’s championship was boosted by the presence of international motorsport commentator Jonathan Green, who ‘voiced’ coverage of each round of the series and has now helped develop the opportunity to screen coverage on the dedicated motorsport channel.

Also helping push the series in Australia has been Trevor Scheumack of ETEC Motorsport, who has long championed Australian drivers in the series and has brought the likes of Nathan Antunes and more recently Scott Pye to New Zealand to hone their skills over the summer.

“TRS is such a fantastic opportunity for Australian and New Zealand drivers to test themselves against each other and to see how they rate against some of the fastest talent from the northern hemisphere, it’s great to see Aussie will have a chance to see the level of competition in the series,” he says.

Transmission times for the coverage run through to the end of this month.

Category manager Barrie Thomlinson says with such a strong international driver presence and coverage going out each week in an edited package the 2012 series made ‘fantastic TV’.

“I am sure drivers who contested the 2012 series will go on to become household names and national motorsport identities as have so many in the eight year TRS has been running.  Now Australia gets a chance to see what TRS is all about, with this coverage of one of the most fiercely fought championship seasons so far,” he says.

The series, he adds, is keen to talk to Australian drivers looking to race in the 2013 TRS Championship.

“With several of last year’s local and international competitors already confirmed to return to add to a new group of talented young rookies the 2013 series shows every sign of equalling or exceeding what we saw this year.  We are always keen to talk to young Australians looking to progress their careers," says Thomlinson.
