Partial Closures of Huatoki Walkway
Tree work will see part of Huatoki Walkway closed on Thursday and Friday this week.
Tomorrow (Thursday) a crane will be at the top of Brougham Street to remove a magnolia tree which split during the weekend. People using the walkway from the city end will need to use the Red Coat Lane exit, and those coming from the south can exit to Carrington Street via the track opposite the prison quarry.
Also, two car parks on Brougham Street will be out of action during the work.
On Friday (19 OCTOBER) the walkway between Harris Street and the prison quarry will be closed to the public so that logs can be removed from Huatoki Stream.
“There will be a digger and trucks in the area which will make it too dangerous to keep that section open to the public during the work,” says District Arborist Conrad Pattison.
The logs are gum trees which have fallen into the stream. They are being removed before they can cause flooding issues in the area.
During Friday’s closure the public are encouraged to bypass that section by using an alternative route from Downe Street over Marsland Hill to Brougham Street, or the access track adjacent to the prison quarry from Huatoki Walkway to Carrington Street.
