John Key’s brain fades appear to be getting worse every day, with his latest consisting of a statement that he voted for the purchase age for alcohol to be 20, when in fact his vote in Parliament was for it to be 18, says Labour’s Deputy Leader Grant Robertson.

“John Key just seems unable to be straight up with New Zealanders.  On TV3 last night he said that he had voted for the age to be 20 because that’s what many Kiwis wanted.  But Parliament’s records are clear that John Key cast his vote for the age to remain 18, after his earlier preferred option for a split age was eliminated.

“This is extraordinary that the Prime Minister thinks he can get away with telling New Zealanders what he thinks they want to hear, when his actions are the complete opposite.

“This follows on from a series of false statements about the Kim Dotcom saga and his wilful ignorance around the Police investigation into John Banks.

“New Zealanders will be disappointed with the Prime Minister. They have every right to expect better from him than brain fades and half-truths,” said Grant Robertson.
