The Stratford District Youth Council is taking a leading role in encouraging family togetherness in the Stratford district.

To coincide with Children’s Day (2 March 2008), the Stratford District Council is planning a Family Movie Day. The day will kick off around 3pm with games and activities, and several performances in the afternoon.

The final event will be a screening of Disney’s classic The Lion King on the TSB Bank Superscreen, a massive 8 x 5 metre television screen. The movie will start from 6:00pm, with food and refreshments available throughout the day.

“The idea for the Family Movie Day came about because we realised there aren’t many activities for entire families to do together in Stratford,” says Stratford District Youth Council chairman Jayne Gulliver. “We wanted to put on an event that whole families could attend together, and all enjoy themselves.”

The concept for the event has since taken off, with several organisations keen to attend. “The theme for Children’s Day 2008 is ‘new experiences’,” says Jayne. “We think our Family Movie Day will be a fun new experience for many, and we hope to see a good turnout.”
