Welly Awards nominees announced
Three local nominees have been selected as finalists in the Science and Technology category of the 2012 Wellingtonian of the Year.
Mayor Ray Wallace says the Hutt City Council-sponsored category of science and technology features home town candidates who are all outstanding in their field.
“Hutt City is at the leading edge of science and technology in New Zealand with a significant infrastructure and talented individuals who are making an international impact.
”The three finalists with links to the Hutt are:
- Neville Jordan - An investor and entrepreneur, Neville has been a successful founder and director of science and technology companies for more than 30 years. He is currently executive chairman of Endeavour Capital.
- David Percy - David runs Pertronic Industries Ltd, developing and manufacturing a comprehensive range of automatic fire control indicating equipment sold around the world and made right here in the Hutt.
- Dr Alex Malahoff - Alex is chief executive of GNS Science. His passion is to help make the Wellington region a centre for world-recognised earth sciences.
The fourth finalist is Prof Kate McGrath, who one of New Zealand’s leading young physical scientists and a professor at Victoria University. She became Director of the MacDiarmid Institute in 2011.
Winners of the 2012 Wellingtonian of the Year will be announced at the awards ceremony on 22 November.
