Hutt Valley detectives investigating brutal attack of elderly man
Hutt Valley Police are investigating the brutal assault of an 82 year old Wainuiomata man inside his home last night.
Detective Sergeant Mike Sears of the Hutt Valley CIB says the the Norfolk Street resident answered a knock at his door shortly before 8.00pm last night.
"He was confronted by two young males, who asked to speak to a person known to the victim. He was then pushed to the ground and struck over the head with a wooden baton. Demands were made for cash."
He says the offenders have then made a messy search of the house, before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“We need the public’s help in identifying these cowardly thugs. This victim was targeted in his own home. He has sustained bad bruising to his face and body and has been shaken by this attack and is currently staying with family."
The offenders are described as 15 to 16 year old males. One was wearing one black and one white sports shoes.
Detective Sergeant says Police are making positive progress in their enquiries.
