Investigations by Rodney Police into recently reported cases of unexplained approaches to young females has already resulted in one male being spoken to.

On Thursday 18 October 2012 two young girls reported being approached by a male on Moffat Road, in Red Beach.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty of the Rodney CIB says a highly embarrassed male presented himself to the Orewa Police Station after hearing reports on the radio. After being interviewed by police it was established that there was no criminal intent.

“In hindsight he realises his actions could be seriously misconstrued, and he further stated that the girls did the right thing in not accepting the ride.”

"There’s been heightened vigilance by the general community since the two reported complaints were received. We’ve been contacted on a number of occasions by members of the public who have provided Police with useful information.  No further complaints or reports of unexplained approaches to children have been received thus far,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty said.

Rodney Police welcome information via the Orewa Police station on Ph: 09 4264555.
