Tom Etuata was a kind man who worked quietly and with humility to serve the diverse communities of the Pacific, says Su’a William Sio, Labour’s Pacific Island Affairs spokesperson.

“I learnt of Tom’s passing yesterday and want to convey my sincerest sympathies and condolences to Tom’s wife Viola, their daughter Summer, and to his bereaved parents and extended family.

“Tom was well respected and will be sorely missed. His passing will leave a huge gap in Pacific broadcasting.

“In 2009 he was appointed CEO of the Pacific Media Network Trust which runs both the nationwide Radio Niu FM and Auckland’s Radio 531pi. He was committed to a quality news service for the Pacific communities in New Zealand as well as for the region.

“The son of Reverend Tom Etuata senior, Tom was not only active in the Niuean community but he also played a key role in the promotion of various Pacific events including the prestigious Pacific Music Awards.

“He was well known for his commitment to a healthy lifestyle and held the position of Secretary-General for South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation as well as being involved with the Samoan Sports Awards.

“It is my prayer that Tom’s family and friends will be comforted in the knowledge of Tom’s legacy of service to the Pacific community. Ia manuia lau malaga Tom,” Su’a William Sio said.
