It is with sadness that I’ve learnt that Rev Kilifi Heimuli has passed away, says Su’a William Sio, Labour’s Pacific Island Affairs spokesperson.

“Rev Kilifi Heimuli spent many years working for the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs. He was a tireless advocate for the Pacific community and as a skilled linguist was able to keep many communities connected.

“He was well known as the Tongan who spoke Maori  and was often seen taking members of the Royal Tongan families onto Turangawaewae Marae. The relationships he brokered were of significant and lasting value.

“He will be remembered for his tireless service to the Pacific community and his generous sense of humour.

“I want to extend to the bereaved family of Rev Kilifi Heimuli our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time,” Su’a William Sio said.
