WELLINGTON CITY

The annual Pelorus Trust Sky Show on Monday 5 November is set to go off with a bang.

Starting at 9pm, the 12-minute fireworks display will be set to a soundtrack composed by Strike, Wellington's internationally renowned drumming and percussion group.

If you're on the waterfront to watch the display you'll hear the Strike soundtrack synchronised live. Those watching from other vantage points can tune into Classic Hits (90.1 FM) and ZM (90.9FM) to hear it.

As usual there will be extensive traffic management in place - particularly on Oriental Parade and Mt Victoria. Traffic moving east away from the central city along Oriental Parade and Evans Bay Parade will be restricted to one lane and one direction from 7-10pm so emergency vehicles can access the area quickly if needed.

Evans Bay Parade will be closed to through traffic (residents' access only) at the Cobham Drive intersection from 7-10pm. There will be large numbers of parking wardens on patrol - any illegally or dangerously parked vehicles will be towed.

To control traffic on Mount Victoria, Alexandra Road will be closed at the intersection with Constable Street in Newtown once the maximum safe parking capacity is reached. There will also be parking restrictions around the lookout along Alexandra Road, and a one-way traffic flow will be in place on the roads around the lookout.

If you can, please catch the bus or train, or walk into town. Traffic may well come to a complete standstill.

Also, for safety reasons, please don't stop anywhere on the highway between Petone and Wellington.

In the event of bad weather, the Pelorus Trust Sky Show will be held on Tuesday 6 November. Listen to Classic Hits (90.1 FM) and ZM (90.9FM) for updates.
