Muriwai - Sudden Death

Police are investigating the sudden death of a 19 year old man at Muriwai this morning.

The man was preparing to go fishing from the rocks at Muriwai at about 11.50am when he fell into the sea.

The Westpac recue helicopter and the Police Eagle helicopter both attended and could not locate the man after an extensive search.

Local Police and Surf Lifesavers continued the search. Surf Lifesavers located and recovered the mans body this afternoon. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Police are reporting the death to the coroner.

The mans name will be released once family members have been advised.
