Hutt City Council will be in Westfield’s Queensgate Plaza next week, talking to people about the importance of earthquake strengthening and how to create a healthy home.

Council recently published a free guide for homeowners to help them the identify features of their properties that might need to be strengthened to withstand earthquakes, such as un-reinforced brick chimneys or walls and foundations.

Earthquakes are a fact of life for our region, which has prompted council to produce the guide – Earthquake Strengthen Your House – as a way of helping people assess their properties and make an informed decision about whether they need qualified builders to carry out improvements.

Along with providing advice on residential earthquake strengthening, visitors to Queensgate can talk to the council’s eco design advisor about how to create a healthier, drier and warmer home. The eco design advisory service is offered free to Hutt City residents.

Council will operate a display stand in Queensgate’s ground floor centre court from Monday 12 November to Friday 16 November.

Media are invited to visit the council stand at 2.30pm on Tuesday 13 November, when Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace will be talking to people about council’s earthquake, eco design and other services.
