SH5 almost clear and road TO OPEN BEFORE DARK

TAUPO — Most cars trapped on the Napier Taupo Highway have now been recovered and SH5 will be open later tonight (Tuesday 6 October) - hopefully before dark   Motorists who have been queuing at roadblocks at either end of State Highway 5 will need to remain patient for a little while longer, but it is likely the road will open later tonight before dark.

Stranded drivers to go to great lake centre

TAUPO — Civil Defence Taupo are advising drivers of abandoned vehicles to make their way to the Great Lake Centre by 9am Tuesday, so the co-ordination effort can get underway   Those being accommodated in the local marae will be picked up by buses in the morning but those in private or commercial accommodation will need to make their way to the Great Lake Centre, in the centre of town, to join the others by 9am.

Roads remain closed overnight

CENTRAL PLATEAU — Taupo Civil Defence report roads will remain closed overnight and roadblocks will remain in place until further notice   Some of the closest owners have been reunited with their cars but the majority will need to wait until tomorrow due to the approaching night and continuing poor weather conditions.

Septic tank waste disposal facility approved

TAUPO — Waste from septic tanks will be transported to Taupo Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment once the facility for contractors to dispose of waste is constructed.
